Katherine Mathias

Katherine Mathias was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, and spent 19 years in Los Angeles working across the creative industries of film, fashion, music, and production. She returned to South Africa in 2004 and began building a career in marketing and communications, before moving into entrepreneurship and hospitality. She went on to work extensively in safari tourism, developing a strong understanding of Southern and East Africa, its wildlife, and the people working to protect its natural heritage.Katherine holds an NQF2 field guide qualification through Nature Guide Training and has completed K9 anti-poaching dog-handling training. A horsewoman since her teens, she has ridden and guided across South Africa, the United States, and Israel, and has managed safari horses professionally. As Communications Manager at Empowers Africa, Katherine brings together her creative, business, and conservation background to support the organisation’s work in wildlife protection and community development. She is based in Hoedspruit, South Africa.
