Thornybush K9 Unit, Royal Portfolio Foundation
Last month, our Empowers Africa trustees visited the Thornybush K9 Unit based in the Thornybush Private Reserve in the Great Kruger Area of South Africa. They witnessed a demonstration of how the attack and hound dogs work with their handlers, and the importance the unit plays in the fight against poaching. After the visit, we were delighted to fund new watches for the unit, through our partner the Royal Portfolio Foundation, for a total grant of $2,000. The new watches are top of the range Garmin Tactix 7, compatible with night vision goggles, and will allow the team to keep track of the dogs while working in thick bush. They are the first K9 unit to be using the watches and we were thrilled to be able to support them!
