Happy Friday from Rwanda! 🦍
These happy chappies are mountain gorilla in Volcanoes National Park. The park is home to the highest number of gorilla in the Virunga mountains, but sadly the species is classified as Critically Endangered.
One of the newest lodges in the area is @wearewilderness Bisate Lodge. Despite being utterly beautiful and an absolute treat for anyone who stays there, the lodge is also aiming to become a Centre of Excellence for great ape research, focusing on mountain gorilla, and ultimately growing a local, sustainable, conservation-based economy. As a result of their efforts, it is hoped that the population of mountain gorilla will begin to grow ❤️
