We are devastated to share the news that two black rhino have been found dead in Zakouma National Park in Chad. The two carcasses, a male and a female, were discovered on October 15th but the cause of death is at the moment unknown. It is however almost certain that the two rhino were not victims of poaching.
An expert veterinary team have been carrying out post-mortems on the rhino and samples are being sent to South African for testing. We will keep you updated on any news that comes through.
The 2 rhino were part of a group of 6 that were translocated from South Africa in May, marking the return of the species to the country after a historic 46 years. The other 4 rhino are currently doing well and are being closely monitored.
Our thoughts are with the team at @africanparksnetwork and @zakouma_national_park ❤️
