Transforming communities through education
Education is the heart of a thriving community. Yet, millions of children across Africa are trapped in underperforming schools or have no access to education at all, leaving them without the skills or agency to shape their own futures.
Duara is pioneering a paradigm shift in education—building a scalable, sustainable, and locally-driven microschool collective that makes high-quality education accessible to every community. We do this by transforming female teachers into entrepreneurs of their own microschool, equipping them with the tools, training, resources and support needed to unlock the power of their communities from within.
Each Duara school is:
- A place where children thrive—through empowered teachers, innovative learning approaches and community engagement
- A hub for community transformation—strengthening surrounding schools and the community
- Locally-owned and part of an interconnected collective—moving from centralised, top-down, one-size-fits-all education to locally-driven and adaptable
- A self-sustaining vehicle of change—shifting from dependency to sustainability

Growing from 4 to 40 women-owned Microschools in Kenya by 2026
The next phase: Replication — From 4 to 40 schools (2025-2026)
Since launching Duara at the end of 2023, we have moved from idea to execution, showing key proof points that our model can be transformational, with four operational microschools in two counties in Kenya.
The next phase – expanding from 4 to 40 schools – is not just about opening more schools. It is about building a system that can grow, sustain itself, and transform communities at scale.
With a proven model, operational infrastructure, and financial sustainability mechanisms in place, we will be ready to expand to 400 schools—moving toward long-term sustainability as the Duara Collective.
