Fisherman’s Rest Community Projects in Malawi is a holistic, people-first, problem-solving NGO approaching Malawi’s rural challenges through multiple strategies. We work with people for both environmental conservation and protection as well as helping households generate income and give hope for the future.

As an organisation we believe that looking after the planet sustainably starts at home and rural Malawi is no exception. Our main projects are centred around a unique water management system called Madzi Alipo “water is here”, where clean water flows in communities – always. Protecting and planting trees, creating sustainable woodlots, preventing soil erosion, bringing back natural resources and micro business start-ups to support this education in schools, as well as improving school infrastructure in rural areas.

Help us implement reliable water points using innovative durable and cost effective parts

Madzi Alipo goes beyond water point installation and gives communities a water system, where repairs, maintenance and water table conservation are all catered for and provide flowing water – always. The project also designs, manufactures and supplies high quality durable water point parts to the Malawian market place, as well as water quality testing, ongoing data collection and efforts to improve services, collaboration and transparency between key WASH stakeholders.

Give households and the planet the means to thrive through tree planting

Tree planting that goes beyond the environment. Trees provide shade, soil integrity and land improvement, but they also offer sustainable income at a household level in rural communities. These trees are doing more than saving the environment, they are funding school places, feeding families and supporting micro businesses. The Tree Project plants trees alongside education in schools, prisons, communities and household land. Land is being restored and whole communities are benefiting and changing harmful farming practices for sustainable and natural solutions.

Fill bellies, provide opportunities and see generations change

Education is a pivotal component in caring for land, animals and each other, encouraging children to become active global citizens. We’ve built libraries, classrooms and whole schools in rural Malawi, supplied books, school breakfasts, and continued education through the BRAVE programme where year on year girls and boys receive adolescent health and wellness workshops as well as secondary funding and tertiary scholarships.

General giving to BEYOND

Most charities are created to do one job, but in Malawi we live in diverse communities and we are a part of everyday life. We love to go beyond the ordinary expectations of an NGO and meet community needs in a responsive and flexible way. Donate and give us a unique flexibility to respond to real needs in real-time.
