“Blood Lions” Screening
Wednesday, December 2nd, 2015 - The Explorers Club, NYC
Empowers Africa, a non-profit foundation based in the United States that supports programs on the ground in Sub-Saharan Africa, held a special screening of Blood Lions™ at The Explorers Club in New York City on December 2nd, 2015.
Blood Lions™ is a film unveiling the brutal and unethical practices of the canned hunting and captive lion industries and has garnered global reaction since its premiere. Guests included: Ian Michler (Blood Lions™ Consultant and lead character), Andrew Venter (CEO of Wildlands), Luke Hunter (President of Panthera), Shannon Elizabeth (Animal Avengers), Richard Wiese (Host of ABC’s Born to Explore) and Empowers Africa Board of Trustees, Nina Griscom, Aisha Haque, Jennifer Kennedy, Michele Gradin, Patricia Glass, Nicci Wiese, Catherine Howell and Krista Krieger.
The event raised over $25,000 to help fund the employment of additional NSPCA Wildlife Unit Inspectors who will aid in regulating the industry by monitoring facilities across South Africa and implementing action when laws against lions and wildlife are broken. The funds will be granted from Empowers Africa to Wildlands, one of South Africa’s leading environmental non-profit organizations and the co-producer of the documentary.
Empowers Africa is a 501(c)(3) that focuses on funding programs in communities that surround protected conservation and wildlife areas or World Heritage sites; programs in urban communities where tourism is a strong source of development; and programs that support the protection of wildlife and land conservation.
