DSWT Orphanage in Nairobi

At the heart of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s conservation activities is the Orphans’ Project, which has achieved world-wide acclaim through its hugely successful elephant and rhino rescue and rehabilitation program. The Orphans’ Project is the first and most successful elephant orphan rescue and rehabilitation program in the world.

The Nairobi Nursery Unit is home to orphans aged three and under and provides intensive care for a variety of orphaned animals. The keepers are on hand 24/7 to ensure newly rescued orphaned animals have a secure and loving environment in which to heal and recover. To date they have successfully raised 262 orphan elephants and 36 baby elephants have been born from those that were able to integrate back into the wild.
