World Lion & World Elephant Day Film Festival 2023

In celebration of World Lion Day & World Elephant Day, Empowers Africa held its 2023 annual film festival in Southampton, New York, in partnership with the Southampton Arts Center.

Attendees enjoyed three documentary films including episode 1 of the newly released Secrets of the Elephants. The four-part series by James Cameron, with narration by Natalie Portman, has received Emmy nominations for Outstanding Documentary Series and Outstanding Cinematography. The evening also included the full-feature documentary, Birth of a Pride, by award-winning wildlife conservation photographers and National Geographic Explorers-in-Residence Beverly and Dereck Joubert. A short documentary featuring some of Empowers Africa’s conservation initiatives, including dehorning rhinos, was also screened.
