Children in the Wilderness
Empowers Africa is pleased to announce a grant made to Children in the Wilderness (CITW) to sponsor the annual educational costs of 7 primary students at Ziga Primary School.
Children in the Wilderness (CITW) is an independent non-profit organization established and supported by Wilderness Safaris. CITW’s overall goal is to facilitate sustainable conservation through leadership development of rural children in Africa. CITW works to promote childhood education by alleviating major obstacles including hunger and poverty. One of the areas CITW works is on the southeastern border of Hwange National Park, in Zimbabwe.
Each of the four schools in the area now a feeding program – every learner gets one nutritious meal during the school day. CITW has introduced a teacher training program and the payment of incentives that supplement teachers income. Furthermore, CITW has been involved with numerous building projects including a complete refurbish of the schools, as well as providing classroom materials. CITW’s projects include educational & building programs aimed at uplifting the standard of education in the rural communities. CITW also has a scholarship fund through which approximately USD 250 covers school fees and uniforms for a year for primary; approximately USD 550 covers the same costs for secondary school.
