Grant Announcement: Asilia Giving

Empowers Africa made a grant of USD 6,525 to support Asilia Giving’s scholarship program at SILA Vocational College in Arusha, Tanzania. We are proud to support Asilia Africa’s endeavor to bring higher education and tourism jobs to young men and women in rural communities. The scholarship program provides tuition for the one-year Hotel and Tourism Management course as well as securing internships and assistance with job placement upon graduation.
Asilia Giving’s Positive Impact Coordinator in Arusha selects scholarship candidates by consulting village elders, teachers, and parents. Once students are enrolled, the coordinator, who consistently meets with the student’s parents and teachers, continuously evaluates them. At the end of each semester, the student’s grades and progress reports are reviewed by Asilia. Asilia’s goal for 2016 is to raise enough funds for twenty scholarships, which would go to two children from each of the ten local communities where Asilia operates.
