Have you ever wondered what an elephant’s skin looks like up close?
Savanna elephants tend to be more wrinkled than forest elephants due to exposure to the hot sun in open areas. The wrinkles in their skin retain moisture, keeping it healthy and helping them stay cooler for extended periods of time.
Though elephant skin seems tough on the exterior, they have extensive sensory-motor cells making them extremely sensitive to touch, so much so that they can even feel a fly landing on their backs.
