The Blue Crane, also known as the Stanley Crane and the Paradise Crane, is the national bird of South Africa.

IUCN has listed this species as vulnerable. The total population of Blue Crane is estimated to be around 25,580 individuals, of which at least 25,520 can be found in South Africa. Habitat destruction arising from the increase in human population and agricultural expansion are the main population threats.
