Today, we celebrate our iconic, long-necked and long-legged friends – the giraffe! World Giraffe Day is a chance to raise awareness of the plight of the animals, whose numbers are down to a mere 110,000 across the continent. Current threats include human-wildlife conflict, loss of habitat due to deforestation and, in some cases, illegal poaching and hunting. Who would have thought that one of our most iconic animals was so threatened in the wild?
If you didn’t know that giraffe were endangered, then today is the day to spread the word and do your bit! 🦒 🦒
