Today is #WorldFemaleRangerDay.

“If you educate a man, you educate an individual. But if you educate a woman, you educate a nation.” – African Proverb

We are celebrating and honoring the women who risk their lives every day and work tirelessly to save Africa’s wildlife. They are shattering the stereotype that it is a “man’s job” and breaking away from the shackles of patriarchy.

The Black Mambas, named after the deadliest snake, were the pioneers of the all-female Anti-Poaching Unit in South Africa.

On this World Female Ranger Day, watch as these women tackle several challenges in their race to end poaching and preserve the wildlife. Their unique approach to combating the war against poaching focuses on education and bonding with the local communities. The Mambas are confident that this fight will not be won with guns and bullets but through widespread education and empowerment of the communities that border the Balule Wildlife Reserve.
