We recently announced our new fiscal sponsorship partners, @singita_ and in honour of our partnership, Paula Franklin headed off to check out the fabulous community projects at Singita’s camps in the Kruger region of South Africa. . . .
The first in our series of updates from the bush is the Singita Community Culinary School. The unique cookery program is based in a state-of-the-art kitchen at Singita Lebombo and trains young people from the surrounding communities in a variety of gastronomic techniques. Graduates from the school are then equipped with the skills to search for jobs in safari kitchens as well as further afield – in fact, one lucky lady even went on to cook at the acclaimed Blue Hill at Stone Barns just outside NYC last year! Since the start of the program in 2007, 60 chefs have found new careers and 95% are currently employed. . . .
These projects are just what’s needed to allow the families that live in and around the reserves to thrive, both economically and socially, and it’s a pleasure to see the enthusiasm and passion of the students and their chef teachers. Thank you @singita_ 🙌🏻😎
