Who knew that giraffe were endangered? The world’s most recognisable animal is actually classified as ‘Vulnerable’ on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species. @giraffe_conservation have estimated that numbers have plummeted by around 40% to below 100,000 across the continent in the last three decades
Human population growth is the largest threat for giraffe today and as we as humans take up more space, there’s simply less available for giraffe to thrive. As well as habitat loss, illegal hunting, increasing human-wildlife conflict and civil unrest are all factors pushing giraffe toward extinction.
So, what can we do? Spread the word! By educating, enlightening and empowering others on the plight of the giraffe, we can push to ensure their long term success in the wild… 📷 by @jamessuter and facts by @giraffe_conservation
