Today is International Primate Day!
International Primate Day is an annual event to promote awareness about protecting and saving primates. With over 300 species, Primates are the third most diverse group of animals behind rodents and bats. Monkeys, apes, lemurs, lorises, tarsiers, and humans are all members of this order of mammals.
Primates have advanced cognitive abilities and have evolved to deal with a myriad of challenges, including navigating complex social dynamics and existing in several habitats. But, more than a third of primates are categorized as critically endangered or threatened by International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
