In the past, South Africa was home to thousands of rhinos. However, they began plummeting towards extinction due to illegal poaching attributed to the widespread belief that rhino horn cures and heals an array of ailments.
The decision to de-horn rhinos is never an easy call to make. Currently, however, due to the desperate situation rhinos have found themselves in, dehorning has become a necessary measure in some regions.
