Light the Way for Education

Together, we can bring life-changing electricity to 184 deserving students who share a forest with approximately half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.
HOW YOU CAN HELP

  • SHARE, LIKE & REPOST on social media and make sure to use our hashtag #LightTheWayForEducation—help us go viral!

Empowers Africa works with communities that live in close proximity with endangered species and we are always looking for ways to restore the harmony between indigenous people, land and wildlife. We are proud to announce a crowd funding campaign on Indiegogo to raise money for a solar power system at the Nkuringo Integrated Model School located on the outskirts of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda.

OUR DREAM
Our dream is to bring solar power to the Nkuringo Integrated Model School. The school is home to 184 children but it has no power, no lights, no computers, and no refrigeration. We want to change this! The solar system would:

  • Light dark classrooms, dormitories and offices for the first time
  • Allow the school to have solar refrigeration for preserving food
  • Allow the school to continue their successful farming project and refrigerate mushrooms to sell locally
  • Power computers, printers, phones and photocopiers
  • Allow access to the internet

Many of the children and adults in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest have never had a reliable source of electricity. Please help us to empower this school in the remote forests of Uganda by bringing electricity through solar panels.
ABOUT OUR PARTNERS FOR THIS PROJECT
We work with Wildplaces Africa @WildPlacesAfrica who designed, manage and market Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge in Nkuringo, the finest accommodation from which to track mountain gorillas. Clouds is owned by the community of Nkuringo, who get substantial revenue and other benefits from the Lodge. Wildplaces’ are personally involved in all aspects of the community and often run and support fundraisers and specific projects in the area.  They were integral in raising the initial funds for this project through a substantial prize donation to the Empowers Africa auction.
A special thank you to Richard C Wiese and Louie Rousso from @Born to Explore TV for providing the footage and editing this video.
