Empowers Africa Announces 2014 Grant Recipients

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Empowers Africa, a non-profit foundation based in the United States that supports programs on the ground in Sub-Saharan Africa, is pleased to announce its 2014 grant recipients. The foundation has made 22 grants to 16 non-profit organizations amounting to over $160,000 (USD) for programs that support education, healthcare, and wildlife conservation. Empowers Africa will make another round of grants later on in 2014. Since its inception on March 1st, 2013, Empowers Africa has granted over $250,000 (USD).

Empowers Africa was founded in 2013 and has 20 trustees and 12 advisory committee members. The current trustees include: Donna Corbat, Zita de Zagon, Lisa Christiansen Gentil, Flo Fulton,Patricia Glass, Michele Gradin, Nina Griscom, Aisha Haque, Catherine Howell, Pat Isom, Mary Judelson, Jenny Kennedy, Krista Krieger, Suzanne Leydecker, Laura Nicklas, Lyn Pedersen, Frances Schultz, Kim Smith and Nicci Young Wiese. Liz Kelly serves as the Treasury & Secretary of the organization.The advisory committee includes, Marie Aiello, Beth Rudin DeWoody, Gabriella Gentil, Mike Karantonis, Carrie Mackin, Dana Macy, Barbara Missett, Charlotte Mourlot, Jeremy Murphy, Eliza Osborne, Molly Willis and Cathy Zicherman.
