Protecting Cheetahs in South Africa
Cheetahs can run faster than any other land animal at a speed of 70 to 75 mph. They have the ability to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in three seconds. Cheetahs are prolific breeders with up to nine cubs in a litter, however, the majority of cubs do not survive to adulthood, mainly as a result of other predators. The rate of cub mortality can be as high as 90% depending on the area. These photos were taken by Empowers Africa Trustees, Advisory Committee and guests/supporters while traveling in Africa. Many were taken at &Beyond’s Phinda Private Game Reserve (www.andbeyond.com) in South Africa where cheetah have done extremely well. Others were taken in the Southern Plains of the Serengeti during the great migration.
