The objective of The Royal Portfolio Foundation is to pay or apply any income and/or the capital towards community upliftment and the conservation and protection of the environment, including but not limited to:

  • Poverty relief and anti-poverty initiatives;
  • Community development for poor and needy persons;
  • Job creation and skills development;
  • Education;
  • The provision of health care services to poor and needy persons;
  • Youth leadership and/or development; and/or
  • Nature conservation and the protection of the environment

Community and conservation projects in Cape Town

The Silo Hotel

Community: The Silo Hotel is involved in various projects that support and educate vulnerable children by providing food and basic supplies to non-profit organisations such as Atlantic Hope, Leleibloem House and Friends of Child Protection. With the support of The Royal Portfolio Foundation, these organisations collectively provide basic developmental, physical and mental care for vulnerable children between the ages 0-18 and ensure that medical needs are prioritised.

Conservation: The Silo Hotel works with a registered NPO, The South African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds, whose primary objective is to reverse the decline of the seabird population through the rescue, rehabilitation and release of ill, injured, abandoned and oiled seabirds.

Community and conservation projects in Hermanus

Birkenhead House

Community: The Royal Portfolio Foundation has completed numerous maintenance, renovation and construction projects for the Masibulele Crèche. The Birkenhead House team and the Foundation work closely with the Principal providing nutritious daily meals for the children and providing items such as blankets and educational equipment. The next project will focus on improving the outdoor playing area and a vegetable garden for the children.

Conservation: Birkenhead House together with the Dyer Island Conservation Trust support marine conservation by implementing unique conservation and research programmes in a fragile and critically important marine eco-system.

Community and conservation projects in Franschhoek

La Residence

Community: La Residence supports a local primary school, Wes Eind, that caters for children in the surrounding community by assisting with funding, meals and the provision of books for the library and uniforms for the children.

Conservation: The Royal Portfolio Foundation has partnered with The Cape Leopard Trust. The Cape Leopard Trust uses research as a tool for conservation, finding solutions to human-wildlife conflict and inspiring interest in the environment through an interactive and dynamic environmental education programme. By promoting peaceful coexistence and the protection of landscapes, empowered by scientific research, positive community partnerships, education and advocacy, The Cape Leopard Trust aims to ensure the long-term survival of the Cape Leopard.

Community and conservation projects in the Greater Kruger Region

Royal Malewane

Community: Royal Malewane is passionate about creating an environment of growth and upliftment. Royal Malewane supports a number of small creches and a primary school by providing teacher training, recourses and infrastructure.

Conservation: Royal Malewane is actively involved in numerous counter-poaching initiatives in the Great Kruger National Park and is a founder member of the Greater Kruger Environmental Protection Foundation (GKEPF). This includes the funding of highly specialised anti-poaching dog unit.
