Showcasing nature conservation stories
The WildEarth Impact Foundation’s (WEIF) mission is to showcase conservation stories that inspire impactful environmental action whilst delivering demonstrable, positive outcomes for nature & local communities.
WEIF is the dedicated non-profit conservation & social impact partner for WildEarth, a global and trusted brand in nature conversation with an audience of over 7 million global viewers monthly.
Through the transformative power of storytelling, WEIF seeks to foster a deep connection between people and nature in order to preserve the wild for future generations.
The WEIF works towards its mission by targeting four strategic areas of focus:
- Inspire the next wave of nature conservationists
- Shape the standards of natural history storytelling, ecotourism, and nature conservation
- Empower local communities to exercise agency in nature conservation and ecosystem services
- Rewild South Africa’s natural ecosystems
Our encompassing theory of change works towards inspiring leadership and action in nature conservation by amplifying stories and giving visibility to key agents of change. We collaborate with leading organizations, local communities, and other stakeholders to shift prevailing perceptions and scale impact.

WildEarth Impact Foundation Campaigns
WildEarth Education (WildEd)
We aim to take 1 million children from around the world on a virtual safari to inspire the next generation of nature conservationists.
Children are powerful agents of change. Yet, more than 45% of children globally do not have access to education on nature conservation. Through the WildEarth Education programme (WildED), the WEIF seeks to inspire and expand the participation of children in nature conservation by providing an education platform that connects school-aged children from across the globe with nature through live, free, and interactive safaris.
During these virtual live safaris, expert naturalists teach children on topics of nature, discuss pressing issues of biodiversity loss, and highlight the importance of nature conservation. Children can interact with the naturalists in real time as they drive through the African wilderness. They can ask questions about what they see. As children learn about wildlife and nature, the WEIF will showcase the conservation efforts of leading organisations from around the world in an entertaining, interactive format. Through our efforts, we hope to inspire and expand the participation of children in nature conservation.
WEIF Conservation Stories Academy
Enable local communities to exercise agency in conservation storytelling.
Disadvantaged communities, especially women, are disproportionately affected by the negative impacts of biodiversity loss and climate change. Yet, they play a critical role in nature conservation. Despite being powerful agents of change, the stories of disadvantaged communities and their relationship with nature are fundamentally missing from the media landscape. In South Africa, less than 5% of locally produced media is based on our natural and cultural heritage.
The WEIF aims to establish a Conservation Stories Academy: a platform and model for disadvantaged communities to engage in nature conservation storytelling. The WEIF will train and upskill selected candidates from disadvantaged backgrounds to become storytellers, wildlife filmmakers, producers, editors, and directors in conservation storytelling. Beyond training, the Academy will support candidates to either gain employment or become entrepreneurs within the conservation storytelling value chain.
