Wildlands is one of South Africa’s leading environmental non-profit organizations. Through strategic partnerships with communities, the private sector and the South African government, Wildlands is helping South Africa to strengthen its natural ecosystems, educate local communities and improve livelihoods in the process. More recently, Wildlands has co-produced the groundbreaking documentary, Blood Lions™, which exposes captive lion breeding and the canned lion hunting industry in South Africa. Wildlands’ participation in the Blood Lions’ campaign is aimed at regulating the captive lion industry and enabling wild lion conservation in South Africa.
Empowers Africa has partnered with Wildlands in order to provide a cost effective solution to fundraising in the United States by acting as their fiscal sponsor. As an established 501(c)(3), we are able to accept donations from U.S. donors and grant the funds directly to their projects.
Wildlands focuses its work across ten key areas:
Trees for Life:
Gives jobless and marginalized individuals the chance to “grow” themselves out of poverty by propagating indigenous trees and bartering these trees for livelihood support.
Greening your Future:
Indigenous trees propagated by Tree-preneurs are then planted into restoration sites.
Recycling for Life:
Allows poverty stricken and marginalized people, referred to as Waste-preneurs, to collect and trade recyclable waste for livelihood support.
Clothes for Life:
Green-preneurs are able to barter their trees and waste for bundles of good quality, second hand clothing – which they can then sell within their communities or use in their personal capacity or share with friends and family.
Developing a comprehensive training and capacity building process, cultivating core skills and nurturing the leadership, ambassadorship and citizenship of the extended Wildlands’ team and network of Green-preneurs.
Small and Micro Enterprise Development program.
The Species, People and the Conservation of the Environment or “SPACE” program aims to expand the conservation of natural areas through various means.
An international campaign aimed at ending the canned hunting industry, as well as the captive breeding of lions and other predators for commercial purposes.
Supports regional efforts to counter and ultimately stop the poaching of Rhino.
Supports a range of marine and coastal community-focused projects, with emphasis on improving the protection of eco-systems and species.
