Kruger National Park MAJOC (Mission Area Joint Operations Centre), Peace Parks Foundation
While on the ground in South Africa, our Empowers Africa trustees visited the MAJOC (Mission Area Joint Operations Centre) in the Kruger National Park in conjunction with Peace Parks Foundation. The centre was established to co-ordinate operations against rhino poaching across the Kruger, an area of almost 20,000 km2 in which rangers are engaged almost daily in conflict with poachers. The centre is a full-scale military operation and is involved in actively managing rhino populations, compulsory interventions (including anti-poaching operations), international and national collaboration and cooperation, as well as long-term sustainability measures, all in an effort to mitigate the effects of South Africa’s devastating war against rhino poaching.
