Grant Announcement: Nkomo Primary School OVC
We are proud to announce a $4,000 grant to the Nkomo Primary School Orphans and Vulnerable Children’s Center (OVC) in South Africa to support its nutrition program. This grant will provide groceries for the OVC at Nkomo Primary School ensuring that the more than 456 children will receive a nutritious meal each day.
Nkomo Primary School OVC is situated in the rural community of Mduku on the North Coast of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. The school was established in 1998 with 60 children and one teacher (Themba Zikhali). Due to financial constraints, the teaching and learning took place under the trees instead of in classrooms. The school currently educates more than 900 children in 17 classrooms and employs 24 teachers and 8 support staff. The OVC center is also located on site. The leadership and dedication to Nkomo Primary School OVC has not gone unnoticed: Nkomo Primary was identified as a role model in its region and was upgraded to a Full Service School in order to accommodate disabled children from the communities.
