We were deeply sorry to hear the news of an ambush yesterday of a team of rangers in W National Park in Benin. Our sincerest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in such a tragedy ️⁣

Posted @withregram • @africanparksnetwork It is with deep regret that we inform you that yesterday, in the afternoon of Tuesday February 8, a team of rangers was ambushed in W National Park in Benin, while carrying out a patrol at the northern limit of the Park where it intersects with Burkina Faso and Niger.

Initial reports indicate that tragically five rangers and one member of the Benin Armed Forces (FAB) have been killed, with 10 more injured.

Reinforcements from the FAB and additional rangers have currently been deployed on the ground. We continue to work closely with the Government of Benin and all local authorities to intensify safety for our staff and local communities.

We send our sincere condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. We will share more information when it becomes available.

C’est avec un profond regret que nous vous informons qu’hier, dans l’après-midi du mardi 8 février, une équipe de rangers a été prise en embuscade dans le parc national du W au Bénin, alors qu’elle effectuait une patrouille à la limite Nord du parc frontalière aux trois pays Bénin, Burkina Faso et Niger.

Le bilan provisoire fait état de six (06) morts dont cinq (05) parmi les rangers, et un (01) agent des Forces Armées béninoises ainsi que d’une dizaine (10) de blessés.

Des renforts des Forces Armées Béninoises et des écogardes supplémentaires ont actuellement été déployés sur le terrain.

Nous continuons à travailler en étroite collaboration avec le Gouvernement du Bénin et toutes les autorités locales pour assurer la sécurité de notre personnel et des communautés locales.

Nous adressons toutes nos sincères condoléances aux familles de ceux qui ont perdu la vie et vous tiendrons informés lorsque nous aurons de plus amples informations.
