Have you ever heard of spekboom?
Found predominantly in the dry eastern cape region of South Africa, the indigenous evergreen is an environmental miracle worker. In optimal conditions, spekboom is as effective as the Amazon rainforest in removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, making it a hugely powerful tool on the fight against climate change.
Now, guests visiting @samara_karoo can get involved in the planting of spekboom as part of their 5-night conservation safari, and to help in their rehabilitation of the land.
Posted @withregram • @samara_karoo “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I may remember. Involve me and I will learn.” Our core belief is that involving our guests in our conservation projects is key to inspiring an appreciation of the importance of Nature.
We offer every guest, including children, the opportunity to get dirt under their fingernails by planting their own cutting of Spekboom – an indigenous plant with high carbon sequestration potential – assisted by the guiding team.
This participation not only supports our land rehabilitation projects but often serves as a catalyst for discussions of environmentally-responsible behaviour and consumer choices back home.
