Dr Dame Daphne Sheldrick, our founder and matriarch, had the deepest reverence for all creatures, but none more so than the elephant. She made it her life’s work to protect and, crucially, understand the species. The husbandry and insights she discovered have helped us save hundreds of orphaned elephants. Although Daphne is no longer with us, her legacy lives on through these orphans, and the families they have gone on to have in the wild. We proudly continue what Daphne began 45 years ago, forging a future for these remarkable creatures.
