Meet Twins Who are Thriving Thanks to the Singita/Malilangwe Supplementary Feeding Program

Mark Saunders, Executive Director of the Malilangwe Trust in Chiredzi Zimbabwe, Africa has shared an insightful article about the Singita/Malilangwe Supplementary Feeding Program.  The article and the pictures provide a good perspective on the scale of the program and of the needs it is meeting in the areas surrounding the Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve. The feeding program is supported by Empowers Africa and is one of our 2013 grant recipients.  We are proud to be associated with this beautifully run organization.
In his article, Mark reports:
“Introducing Cleopatra and Cliarity Chikomba, twins who have been recipients at one of the 436 supplementary feeding sites in the neighbourhood surrounding the Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve. The cheerful duo, born on 23rd October 2007, have been with our scheme since they were 6 months old.
Apart from the twins, what makes this particular site extra special is that it has Mbuya Mhango as custodian, Mrs. Mhango has taken care of this project since its inception in 2003. She ensures the correct quantity of the corn-soya blend is served daily to the kids attending this site, and takes care of the storage and record keeping.
In addition, Mbuya Mhango’s daughter, Estery, works in the Housekeeping department at Singita Pamushana, aligned with our drive to provide employment to folk in our area. Cleopatra and Cliarity are active participants at Mwenje School, where they enrolled in 2013.”
