Grant Announcement: Singita School of Cooking and Singita Teaching and Technology Programme
Empowers Africa is pleased to announce a USD 7,000 grant to the Singita School of Cooking and to the Teaching and Technology Programme in South Africa.
The Singita School of Cooking ensures 10 local youth are provided with the opportunity to obtain a qualification in Professional Cookery at a National Qualification Framework level 4. Along with theoretical training and hands-on experience, the students also learn how to prepare staff meals and work in a high quality-cooking environment. Following their studies, successful students are provided with employment opportunities. To date, there have already been 50 graduates. Since the start of this initiative in 2007, the project has conducted 8 programs with an 87% pass rate.
The Teaching & Technology Programme, supported by Singita, is aimed at enhancing the skills of rural teachers in 19 primary schools in the communities that neighbor the Sabi Sand Reserve. Teachers have access, for the first time ever, to the necessary satellite and computer equipment, internet and an e-learning platform which provides access to pertinent courses.
