Grant Announcement: Wildlands' Blood Lions Campaign

We are thrilled to announce a grant of USD 4,336 to support Wildlands for the Blood Lions Campaign. This movement, initiated by the documentary film Blood Lions™, has raised an astonishing following since its debut in 2015. The film shines a much-needed light onto the multi-million dollar canned lion hunting industry in South Africa and exposes the nationwide captive lion breeding activity.
There are over 8,000 lions held in captivity in South Africa. In 2014, over 800 captive lions were shot in South Africa alone. The numbers continue to increase exponentially, and all are being “justified under the guise of conservation, research and education” (Blood Lions™). Consequently, there is a growing need for regulation due to the 200+ breeding farms that hold over 8,000 captive lions. The Blood Lions campaign calls for the implementation of South Africa’s Animal Protection Act and the termination of the canned hunting and captive breeding industry in its entirety.
This campaign is a gripping call to action against canned hunting and predator breeding. It has since sparked a movement of people to work toward the termination of breeding lions for canned hunting.
