Have you heard of the @theflipflopi ? If not, take a look right here! In a world first, an incredible team of people based on the island of Lamu in Kenya have built a traditional sailing boat (dhow) from plastic collected on Kenya’s beaches and roads. Using over 10 tonnes of plastic waste and recycled flip flops, the dhow is now complete and ‘The Flip Flopi’ set sail on Saturday 15th September!
The team are planning to sail down the East Coast of the continent, beginning in Lamu and heading for Cape Town. Along the way, they’ll be spreading their important message about the dangers of sungle-use plastic and talking to law makers, companies and communities about what can be done to reduce plastic use and stop it ending up in the environment.
A good cause and one that makes us smile? We couldn’t think of anything better! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 #Repost @theflipflopi with @get_repost
