“Education is the most powerful tool which you can use to change the world” – Nelson Mandela

Africa is one of the only regions in the world where the youth population is increasing. Education is paramount to the success of the continent, both in terms of understanding conservation and biodiversity, but also for providing employment and livelihood opportunities. We fund projects that support all stages of education as well as innovative learning practices, improvements to infrastructure, and student scholarships.

Arica has one of the youngest and fastest-growing populations in the world, making access to quality education increasingly important to the future of the continent. For many young people, however, the opportunity to learn is still shaped by where they live, their family’s circumstances and whether the resources they need are available. A lack of access at an early age can have consequences that extend well beyond the classroom, limiting future opportunities for further study, employment and economic independence.

Education is therefore about more than attending school. Early childhood development, strong teachers, vocational training, digital access, scholarships and opportunities for further study all help people develop the knowledge and practical skills they need at different stages of life. Supporting these opportunities can open pathways to employment and livelihoods, while giving individuals greater ability to shape their own futures and contribute to the communities around them.

Empowers Africa supports carefully selected organizations working throughout Africa to expand access to education. Through our Fiscal Sponsorship Partnres and strategic grantmaking, we help fund school infrastructure, scholarships, teacher training, early childhood development, vocational and tertiary education, and innovative environmental learning programs. Every organization undergoes rigorous due diligence and ongoing grant oversight.
